The Cameroonian non-coniferous roundwood market stood at 14.4 million m³ in 2018 with no exports, supported by an import-substitution policy aimed at retaining roundwood for local processing. In 2019, the launch of the FILTTRE customs operation to regulate timber exports coincided with the start of legal roundwood shipments abroad, which reached 893 thousand m³ and reduced domestic market volume to 13.2 million m³. The COVID-19 pandemic further disrupted supply chains and production in 2020, causing a slight market contraction to 13.1 million m³.

Post-pandemic recovery saw production rise and the market gradually expand to 13.7 million m³ by 2023. A key driver was the government's 2023 increase in export duties on roundwood and sawn wood, which made exporting less attractive and lowered roundwood exports to 641 thousand m³, thereby boosting domestic availability. This measure aligned with the longer-term policy of promoting local timber processing, reflected also in the 2024 reclassification of forest species that restricts roundwood exports for many varieties.

Cameroon's non-coniferous roundwood production declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 13 940 K m³, which was 1.2% lower than in 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 2.7%, with an average annual decline of 0.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 14 403 K m³. The most significant drop occurred in 2019, when production decreased by 2.0%, while the largest increase was seen in 2018 with a 0.5% rise.
