Regulatory approval for field trials of GM mustard hybrid DMH-11 in 2022 also signaled potential yield improvements. By 2023, the market stabilized near 513 thousand tons, underpinned by a substantial rise in the Minimum Support Price and the promotion of seed hubs and certified seed distribution.

In 2024, the government's push for oilseed self-reliance and large-scale procurement at MSP shaped the sector, although challenges like prices remaining below MSP and delays in GM mustard commercialization persisted. Industry estimates pointed to significant production volumes, with Rajasthan remaining the leading producing state.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine were among the largest buyers of mustard seeds from Asia, accounting for 15.8%, 14.1%, and 12.0% of exports in kind, respectively. However, even combined, they represented only 41.8% of total exports, indicating a broadly diversified partner base.
