The volume of the fresh or chilled mushrooms and truffles market in Northern America contracted significantly from 468.6 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 336.5 thousand tonnes in 2022. This downward trend reversed in 2023, with the market expanding to 360.7 thousand tonnes.

This prolonged reduction in domestic market volume coincided with a sustained rise in exports, which grew from 76.5 to 115.0 thousand tonnes between 2018 and 2023. Concurrently, domestic production fell from 541.6 to 457.7 thousand tonnes over the same period, further limiting the supply available for local consumption.

In value terms, the market declined from $1.27 billion in 2018 to $946 million in 2022. The subsequent recovery to $1.07 billion in 2023 was more pronounced than the volume increase, indicating a shift in average prices or product composition during that year.
