The volume of the German milled rice and broken rice market rose from 321 thousand tons in 2018 to 476 thousand tons in 2020. Over the same period, domestic production increased from 59 thousand tons to 152 thousand tons, and imports remained above 340 thousand tons.

After the 2020 peak, market volume fell to 413 thousand tons in 2021, then recovered to 456 thousand tons in 2022. Production moderated but stayed above 125 thousand tons, while exports dropped from 107 thousand tons in 2018 to 47 thousand tons in 2023.

In 2023, the market volume was 443 thousand tons, reflecting a leveling off after the earlier fluctuations. The overall market size from 2018 to 2023 ended higher than at the start of the period.
