Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, Guinea's milk market volume expanded consistently, rising from 246 thousand tons to 269 thousand tons. This growth was primarily driven by the launch of the AgriFARM project, which aimed to strengthen sustainable family farming and improve access to local, urban and regional markets for producers in 15 prefectures of Upper and Middle Guinea. The project's initial $121 million funding, including a $15 million government contribution, helped increase domestic milk production.

The upward trend continued between 2021 and 2023, with market volume reaching 302 thousand tons by 2023. The AgriFARM project underwent a mid-term review in 2022 to adjust its planned actions for enhancing agricultural resilience. Additionally, memoranda of understanding signed between the government and the Guinea Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts (CCIAG) guaranteed supply and price stability for basic necessities, indirectly supporting dairy market consumption. Fiscal and customs subsidies maintained in 2023 further contributed to stable food prices, including for milk products.

In 2024, the government took further steps to boost the dairy sector, importing 179 pregnant Montbéliarde dairy cows from France as part of a pilot project to improve local milk production genetics. The launch of the 2024 Agricultural Campaign also called for investment in agriculture and livestock, aligning with the broader vision for agricultural transformation.
