The milk market in the Dominican Republic showed notable shifts between 2018 and 2023. After reaching a high of 996.8 thousand tons in 2019, the total market volume contracted over the next two years, declining to 950.9 thousand tons in 2021. It then stabilized near 950 thousand tons through 2023, marking a period of consolidation after the earlier downturn.

This trajectory was shaped by opposing movements in domestic production and imports. Local milk output grew to 916.5 thousand tons in 2019 but subsequently fell for two consecutive years, dropping to 861.6 thousand tons by 2021. In contrast, imports provided a counterbalance, rising consistently from 78.4 thousand tons in 2018 to 90.0 thousand tons in 2021, which cushioned the overall market decline.

The post-2021 period saw a stabilization of both key components. Domestic production leveled off around 860-862 thousand tons, while import volumes remained steady near 90 thousand tons. Consequently, the total market volume showed minimal change, ending the period at 951.4 thousand tons in 2023.
