In physical terms, the Brazilian milk market volume grew from 35.0 million tonnes in 2018 to a peak of 36.5 million tonnes in 2020. After a moderate contraction to 35.7 million tonnes in 2022, volume recovered to 36.5 million tonnes by 2023, showing overall stability across the period.

Measured in value, the market experienced a different trajectory. Starting at $70.4 billion in 2018, the market's value declined to $64.3 billion in 2020 before a strong expansion to $81.9 billion in 2022. It then moderated slightly to $79.4 billion in 2023.

The overall trend from 2018 to 2023 reveals a largely steady physical supply, fluctuating within a range of 1.5 million tonnes. In contrast, the market's total value increased by approximately 13%, pointing to significant shifts in average price levels during these years.

Trinidad and Tobago, Paraguay, and the Philippines accounted for 9.1%, 9.1%, and 9.0% of exports respectively, collectively representing 27.3% of total volume. Over the 2018-2021 period, export value grew by 62.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.6%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 32.6 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 1.9%.
