Earlier Report Observations

The milk market in Barbados showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023. Market volume peaked at 6 935 tons in 2018, then declined to 6 370 tons in 2019. A moderate recovery to 6 675 tons occurred in 2020, followed by a further rise to 6 819 tons in 2021. However, the market contracted sharply to 6 165 tons in 2022, the lowest point in the period, before stabilizing at 6 190 tons in 2023.

Changes in market size were driven by fluctuations in domestic milk production and import volumes. Local production fell from 4 799 tons in 2018 to a low of 3 978 tons in 2020, then partially recovered to 4 119 tons by 2023. Imports, which supplement domestic supply, decreased from 2 984 tons in 2018 to 2 182 tons in 2023, with a temporary spike in 2020. Milk exports from Barbados remained minimal and continued to decline, meaning nearly all production and imports were directed toward domestic consumption.
