Following initial decreases in 2019 and 2020, the market saw a temporary recovery in 2021, reaching 680.2 thousand tons. However, this rebound was short-lived, as volume resumed its decline over the next two years, dropping to 645.3 thousand tons in 2022 and further to 607.5 thousand tons in 2023.

Milk production in Armenia has declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 654.3 thousand tons of milk, showing a slight decrease of 2.0% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 13.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of -4.8%.

Exports milk from Armenia

Exports reached their lowest point in 2019 at 41 tons, then rose to 58 tons in 2020, marking a significant increase of 43.6% over the previous year. The market showed signs of volatility over the observed period. Export volumes sank to their lowest point in 2019 at 42 thousand US dollars, then peaked in 2020 with milk shipments from Armenia totaling 129 thousand US dollars, marking a sharp increase of 204.6% from 2019. Foreign milk supplies to Armenia have increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the import volume amounted to 9 422 tons, showing a solid improvement of 13.7% year-over-year. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 7 480 tons, with the largest decline that year at 3.5%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports grew by 21.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Belarus and Ukraine remained the key partner countries for Armenia's milk imports in kind, with a combined share of 81.3% of total flows, while other partners accounted for the remainder.

Milk imports to Armenia have increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports were recorded at 20 796 thousand US dollars, indicating a strong increase of 12.9% compared to the previous year. The minimum value was in 2018 at 14 331 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline that year at 16.7%. The largest increase occurred in 2019 at 28.5%. Between 2017 and 2020, imports rose by 20.8%, equating to an annualized rate of 6.5%.
