Regulatory developments played a key role. Stricter environmental legislation on waste management, including rules for polychlorinated biphenyl holders introduced in 2021, coincided with a production surge to 41 609 t as manufacturers adapted their processes. Subsequently, the adoption of new construction and territorial planning laws in 2023, which took effect in April 2024, laid the groundwork for potential future demand in building materials. The market experienced a rebound in 2024, supported by the launch of new product applications like soft melamine edges for furniture and more efficient distribution channels utilizing barcodes.

The market landscape also shifted with the exit of Bukóza Holding in 2024, which ceased operations following bankruptcy. Throughout the period, stable import levels of around 2 100 t annually did not offset the dominant influence of production swings and export dynamics on domestic market volume.

From 2017 to 2020, Poland and Hungary were the primary destinations for Slovakia's melamine resin exports in kind, together accounting for 81.6% of total shipments. The remaining share was distributed among other markets.

Slovakia's exports of melamine resins in value terms have risen for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports amounted to 7 230 thousand US dollars, showing a slight increase of 0.7% from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 201.1%, translating to an annualized rate of 44.4%.

During the 2017–2020 period, Poland, Hungary, and Croatia were the key partners for Slovakia's melamine resin exports in value terms. Poland accounted for 48.2% of exports, Hungary for 31.3%, and Croatia for 18.0%, with these three countries together making up 97.5% of total export flows.

Following two years of growth, Slovakia's imports of melamine resins in kind declined. In 2020, imports totaled 1 595 tons, representing a 28.7% drop from the year before. Between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 17.8%, with an average annual decline of 6.3%. The peak was in 2019 at 2 236 tons, which also saw the largest increase of 8.3% that year.
