Earlier Report Observations

The Australian MDF market volume showed a declining trend from 2018 to 2023, falling from 719 thousand cubic meters to 599 thousand cubic meters. This period was marked by significant volatility, including a sharp contraction in 2020 when the market dropped to 579 thousand cubic meters, followed by a strong recovery to 680 thousand cubic meters in 2021.

Market movements were influenced by shifts in domestic production and international trade. Production fluctuated between 530 and 595 thousand cubic meters, with the 2020 low coinciding with reduced imports and higher exports, shrinking overall supply. The 2021 rebound was supported by increased production and imports alongside a drop in exports, temporarily expanding market volume before it resumed its downward path in 2022 and 2023.
