Earlier Report Observations

The market for mandarins, clementines, tangelos, and citrus hybrids in the Caribbean grew to 68 088 t in 2019, then contracted over the following years, stabilizing around 57 000 t from 2021 to 2023.

By 2024, disease pressures such as Huanglongbing (HLB) and Alternaria Brown Spot significantly impacted commercial citrus orchards in the region, driving breeding efforts for tolerant varieties. Consumer demand for easy-to-peel, seedless fruit like clementines and satsumas continued to shape variety selection and marketing, coinciding with a reported slight decrease in overall regional citrus fruit production.
