Earlier Report Observations

The malt market volume in Zimbabwe experienced a decline from 37 132 tonnes in 2018 to 30 904 tonnes in 2021, followed by a recovery to 36 842 tonnes by 2023. The period was marked by a significant contraction in 2021, which represented the lowest point before the market began to regain volume in the subsequent years.

Domestic production of malt showed steady growth, increasing from 37 444 tonnes in 2018 to 39 110 tonnes in 2023. This expansion in output, combined with volatile export activity that peaked in 2021, played a key role in shaping the domestic market's availability and its eventual rebound from the 2021 low.
