Earlier Report Observations

The malt market in Poland experienced notable fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After growing to 602 thousand tons in 2019, the market volume contracted over the following years, falling to 526 thousand tons by 2023. This overall decline coincided with a steady reduction in domestic malt production, which dropped from 479 thousand tons to 418 thousand tons over the same period.

Shifts in international trade significantly impacted the market balance. Imports rose substantially until 2021, reaching 268 thousand tons and helping to offset lower production, but then began to recede. Meanwhile, exports recovered after an initial dip, peaking at 131 thousand tons in 2022 before moderating, which also influenced the net available supply within the country.

For 2024, preliminary trade data indicates imports of 220 thousand tons and exports of 108 thousand tons, continuing the recent trends. The broader agricultural and processing sector, including dairy, showed growth in production and exports, suggesting possible indirect effects on grain demand. Furthermore, global factors such as raw material price volatility and supply chain disruptions remained relevant influences on trade flows and input costs for the malt industry.
