Following a two-year decline, malt production in Austria rebounded in 2020. The country produced 186 K t of malt that year, marking a 23.7% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 15.2%, which translates to an annualized rate of 4.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 150 K t, with the largest decline of 5.5% occurring that same year.

From 2017 to 2020, Italy, Poland, and Romania were the primary destinations for Austria's malt exports in volume terms, accounting for 27.0%, 16.3%, and 14.6% of total exports, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 57.9% of Austria's malt export flows.

After rising for two years, Austria's malt exports in value terms declined in 2020. The country exported 28 313 K $ US worth of malt that year, which was 17.8% lower than in 2019.
