The malt market in the Americas showed a clear upward trajectory from 2018 to 2023, with total volume growing by over 1.2 million tons across the period. The market began at 6.0 million tons in 2018 and climbed steadily to 6.3 million tons by 2020, indicating sustained underlying demand.

This trend was interrupted by a modest contraction to 6.2 million tons in 2021. However, a pronounced rebound followed in 2022, with market volume surging by 12.5% to reach 7.0 million tons. Growth continued into 2023, lifting the market to a new peak of 7.3 million tons.

In 2019, malt production in the Americas reached its lowest point at 6 137 K t. The following year, in 2020, output rose to 6 618 K t, marking a 7.8% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 5.7%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.9%. The most significant decline occurred in 2018, when production fell by 2.0%.

Malt production in the Americas grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the value of malt output was 3 426 M $ US, up 3.2% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value increased by 5.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 3 195 M $ US, which also saw the largest decline of 1.6%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the biggest increase at 3.9%.

In 2020, the Americas exported 1 438 K t of malt, a sharp decline of 10.3% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 10.5%, with an average annual decline of 3.6%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, when exports rose by 9.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for malt exports in kind from the Americas were Japan, accounting for 9.2% of exports, Free Zones at 6.1%, and South Korea at 1.4%. Together, these three markets represented 16.7% of total export flows.

In 2020, malt exports from the Americas totaled 745 M $ US, a significant contraction of 14.2% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 10.6%, with an average annual decline of 3.7%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 867 M $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 14.3%.

In 2020, the Americas imported 1 042 K t of malt, a 27.7% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports fell by 44.2%, with an average annual decline of 17.7%. The largest drop occurred in 2018, when imports declined by 34.4%, while the biggest increase was in 2019, with a rise of 17.7%.
