The maize market in Gabon expanded from 45 863 metric tons in 2018 to 47 019 metric tons in 2020. This growth was primarily driven by the government's Gabon Vert strategy, which aimed to diversify the economy by attracting private investment into the fragmented agricultural sector, with a specific focus on cash crops like maize. Despite the economic recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, enhanced state support for local production helped sustain market growth and reduce import dependency.

After a slight contraction to 46 693 metric tons in 2021, the market volume stabilized around 46 700 metric tons through 2023. This stability was supported by continued investments, including agreements with foreign groups to establish new agropastoral farms and the launch of dedicated yellow maize cultivation campaigns in several provinces. In 2023, the implementation of regulations suspending certain duties and taxes reduced production and distribution costs, contributing to a minor market increase.

In 2024, the government extended tax suspensions on specific goods and signed new agreements, notably with an Israeli group, for the creation of six additional agropastoral farms. A campaign to deliver 1 000 head of cattle was launched to boost livestock production, and the sector was further institutionalized with the creation of the Société d'Agriculture et d'Elevage du Gabon, continuing the strategic focus on strengthening local agriculture.
