The market volume for leguminous vegetables in Serbia started at 59 324 t in 2018, supported by increased export quotas under the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey and active involvement of state and private producers. After a drop to 56 121 t in 2019, the market recovered to 57 872 t in 2020 as government support measures and a focus on local production helped stabilize the sector amid global supply chain disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

From 2021 onward, the market volume continued to decline, reaching 54 044 t in 2021 and 51 541 t in 2022. This downward trend coincided with the introduction of new labeling and packaging rules aligned with European regulations, which affected market access and competitiveness, alongside global challenges such as energy price fluctuations and logistical issues. In 2023, the market volume further decreased to 50 018 t.

In 2020, Serbia produced 57 873 tonnes of leguminous vegetables, showing a modest 3.2% increase compared to the previous year. Production decreased by 14.9% between 2017 and 2020, which translates to an average annual decline of 5.2%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 56 077 tonnes, while the largest year-on-year decline occurred in 2018 at 12.7%.

The market demonstrated volatility during the observed period. Exports reached their peak in 2018 at 110.5 tonnes and their lowest point in 2019, with a 2.1-fold difference between these years. In 2020, Serbia exported 98.8 tonnes of leguminous vegetables, representing a significant 27.3% increase compared to 2019. The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 29.7%, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 109.8%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro formed the main cluster of markets for Serbia's leguminous vegetables exports in kind. Hungary accounted for 46.2% of exports, Bosnia and Herzegovina for 33.0%, and Montenegro for 6.4%. Together, these three countries represented 85.6% of total export flows.
