Imports of in-shell walnuts into Western Africa increased for the second consecutive year in 2020, reaching 7.6 tons, which reflects a solid rise of 20.9% year-over-year. However, between 2017 and 2020, overall imports decreased by 41.2%, equating to an annualized decline of 16.2%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 6.3 tons, with the largest year-on-year drop also occurring in 2018 at 51.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Portugal, and France were the main sources of in-shell walnut imports to Western Africa in volume terms. China contributed 22.0% of imports, Portugal 17.9%, and France 11.3%. Together, these three countries absorbed 51.3% of total imports in kind.
