The market volume for in-shell walnuts in Eastern Europe showed considerable variation from 2018 to 2023. It began at 230.7 thousand tonnes in 2018, then contracted sharply to 203.6 thousand tonnes in 2019. A recovery phase followed, with the market growing to 224.7 thousand tonnes by 2021 and stabilizing around 226-228 thousand tonnes through 2022 and 2023.
Domestic production followed a volatile path, falling from 235.5 thousand tonnes in 2018 to a low of 210.5 thousand tonnes in 2020 before partly rebounding. Concurrently, import volumes more than doubled from 8.7 thousand tonnes in 2018 to a high of 17.6 thousand tonnes in 2022, while exports surged exceptionally in 2019 before returning to more typical levels in subsequent years.
