From 2021 to 2023, the market volume recovered to 171.0 t. This stabilization took place despite a broader context of rising global production costs for inputs like fuel and labor, which can pressure farm-level expansion. Domestic production in Middle Africa continued its slow upward trend, peaking at 164.6 t in 2021 before a minor adjustment. Import levels remained volatile but lower than the 2018 benchmark, reflecting ongoing adjustments in trade flows linked to global market conditions.

The overall market size in Middle Africa demonstrated resilience, ending the period near its 2018 level. The consistent, though modest, growth in local output helped offset fluctuations in import supply, shaping a market that was less dependent on foreign purchases by 2023 than it was at the start of the period.
