Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for in-shell almonds in Libya showed considerable variation. It peaked at 38,833 t in 2019, then contracted to 35,539 t in 2020 before a gradual recovery led to a volume of 37,858 t in 2023.
Import volumes, which had grown steadily from 88 t in 2018 to 2,450 t in 2022, fell to 1,398 t in 2023 and then sharply to 637 t in 2024. This decline in imports during 2024 coincided with a 12% rise in freight costs and a third consecutive year of shrinking global almond acreage, factors that constrained supply and increased the cost of bringing almonds into the country.
