From 2018 to 2020, ice cream imports into Bosnia and Herzegovina remained relatively stable, ranging between 5 300 and 5 600 tons annually. After a rise to 6 586 tons in 2021, imports fluctuated near this level before reaching 7 411 tons in 2024. Domestic production, which was minimal until 2021, surged from 22 tons that year to 76 tons by 2024. Consequently, the total market volume held steady at around 6 600 tons from 2021 through 2023, then grew to 6 995 tons in 2024.

In value terms, the ice cream market demonstrated stronger growth, expanding from 18.5 million US dollars in 2021 to 23.4 million US dollars in 2024. The value of imports also climbed, reaching 24.3 million US dollars in 2024, which may reflect shifts in product mix or pricing. Notably, exports—which were negligible prior to 2023—jumped to 491 tons worth 1.3 million US dollars in 2024 and further to 768 tons valued at 2.5 million US dollars in 2025, marking a new phase for the domestic industry.

The period from 2021 onward was characterized by a consistent import base coupled with a multiplying domestic output. This combination supported overall market volume, while the emergence of substantial exports from 2024 indicated developing external trade channels for Bosnian ice cream producers.
