From 2018 to 2021, the groundnut oil-cake market in Middle Africa expanded from 125.7 thousand tons to 135.7 thousand tons. This growth was primarily driven by a rising demand for plant-based proteins in animal feed, as evidenced by a tripling of soybean meal purchases in some African countries, which bolstered the overall market for oil-cakes. Simultaneously, the development of local oil extraction and cake production facilities increased available supply.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 initially disrupted supply chains and demand for peanut oil, but sustained efforts to promote the use of groundnut oil-cake in livestock feed helped maintain consumption volumes. The market's expansion continued into 2021, supported by ongoing investments in processing capacity and the search for reliable suppliers within the region.

Following a contraction to 131.5 thousand tons in 2022, the market volume recovered to 134.5 thousand tons in 2023. This rebound was fueled by persistent demand from the local livestock and poultry sectors, alongside the construction of new processing plants that enhanced daily production capacities and diversified the applications for groundnut oil-cake.
