The groundnut oil-cake market in Cameroon began its expansion in 2018 with the establishment of MBIANG Oil, a local producer launched in August 2018, and a broader push for 'Made in Cameroon' peanut oils, which encouraged small-scale processors. This helped lift domestic production from 65 700 t to 69 500 t by 2019. Market visibility increased further that year when the 'Mbiang' label was published for cold-pressed oils and the product became available on online platforms like Jumia, broadening distribution.

From 2020 to 2022, market volume grew steadily, reaching 91 121 t, driven largely by a surge in imports, which rose from 6 265 t in 2019 to 20 933 t in 2022. Domestic production peaked at 71 900 t in 2020 then stabilized around 70 000 t. During this period, announcements of extraction equipment for small units and active offers for peanut cake sales indicated sustained entrepreneurial interest in local processing, supporting production levels despite flat output.

In 2023, the market reached 103 957 t, with imports jumping to 33 806 t. Growth was influenced by a temporary suspension of vegetable oil and peanut exports imposed by customs authorities in December 2023, which limited external shipments, and a government decree that lowered the price of refined oil, stimulating domestic consumption and market volume.
