After this high point, the market entered a phase of gradual contraction, declining to 2 719 t by 2023.

The downturn from 2021 onward was influenced by external trade disruptions, notably the war in Ukraine which severely impacted import-dependent supply chains. This conflict caused prices for imported oil to more than double and reduced the availability of foreign-sourced product, contributing to the market's shrinkage. Concurrently, the local sector was reinforced by the entry of a new player, Eco Oil, which launched a processing plant in Kayes with an annual capacity of 40 million liters, sourcing peanuts from Congolese farmers to support domestic output.
