After an initial volume of 75 872 t in 2018, the market shrank to 68 132 t in 2019, then recovered to 75 351 t in 2020, only to contract again to 68 533 t in 2021. The market stabilized around 68 548 t in 2022 before expanding sharply to 92 858 t in 2023, marking a 35% increase from the previous year.

This trajectory was primarily shaped by changes in domestic production, which fell from 66 704 t in 2018 to 65 371 t in 2019 before jumping to 73 874 t in 2020. Production dipped again in 2021 and 2022, holding near 67 800 t, then surged to 91 837 t in 2023. Meanwhile, imports fell steadily from over 10 500 t in 2018 to just over 1 000 t by 2022, while exports remained a minor factor, peaking in 2019 at 4 475 t before declining.

After two years of decline, groundnut oil and fractions production in the MENA region has rebounded. In 2020, production reached 73 874 tonnes, marking a 13.0% increase compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production grew by 3.3%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 65 371 tonnes, while the most significant drop occurred in 2018 with a 6.7% decrease.

In 2020, the output was valued at 203.9 million US dollars, reflecting a modest increase of 6.6% from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production value expanded by 20.2%, averaging an annual growth rate of 6.3%. The lowest value was observed in 2018 at 163.9 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 3.3%. In contrast, the most substantial increase occurred in 2019 with a 16.7% rise.

The data shows irregular fluctuations, pointing to a volatile market environment. Exports varied significantly, with a 4.3-fold difference between the peak in 2019 and the low in 2020. In 2020, groundnut oil and fractions deliveries from MENA totaled 1 043 tonnes, representing a sharp decline of 76.7% compared to the prior year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 4 475 tonnes, which also experienced the largest increase of 227.8%.

The market exhibited volatility throughout the observed period. Exports varied by a factor of 4.5, from a high in 2019 to a low in 2020. In 2020, MENA exported 2 878 thousand US dollars worth of groundnut oil and fractions, down by 78.0% from 2019. The peak value was reached in 2019 at 13 094 thousand US dollars, which also saw the most significant increase of 290.2%.
