Earlier Report Observations

Groundnut oil production in the Americas showed variability from 2018 to 2024, with a notable increase to 341 thousand tons in 2022, followed by a decline to 288 thousand tons in 2023. The domestic market size, reflecting available volume for consumption, fell sharply to 137 thousand tons in 2022 due to a surge in exports, then recovered modestly to 142 thousand tons in 2023 as export volumes eased.

The production peak in 2022 coincided with significant industry investments, such as Gulab Oils in India expanding its daily production capacity from 100 to 1,000 tons, highlighting global efforts to scale up groundnut oil output. Product innovation, including the launch of a 5-liter pack of Freedom Groundnut Oil by Gemini Edibles & Fats India Ltd, catered to growing consumer preference for healthy cooking oils, supporting demand. These developments contributed to the increased production observed that year.

In 2023, despite reports of record peanut crops and expanded oil production in Brazil, overall production in the Americas declined. The market size saw a slight increase as exports decreased. By 2024, stable consumption in the United States and rising imports in Mexico indicated ongoing regional demand for groundnut oil, with Brazil emerging as a leading global exporter.
