The grape wine market in Uruguay showed significant volatility from 2018 to 2023. After a slight dip to 57.6 million liters in 2019, market volume grew steadily over the next three years, reaching a peak of 75.5 million liters in 2022. This expansion was supported by a recovery in domestic production, which rose from 60.5 million liters in 2019 to 75.6 million liters in 2022.

A sharp turnaround occurred in 2023, when the market contracted by one-third to approximately 50.0 million liters. This decline was directly tied to a major drop in local output, which fell to 50.2 million liters from 75.6 million liters the previous year. Import and export flows moderated during this period but were secondary to the dominant swing in production.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 3.3%, which translates to an annualized rate of 1.1%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 60 486 thousand liters, while the peak occurred in 2018 with 74 500 thousand liters. The most substantial decline took place in 2019, dropping by 18.8%.
