Earlier Report Observations

The goose meat and offal market in Southern Asia maintained a stable volume between 2 593 and 2 622 tons from 2018 to 2023. This stability was supported by the ongoing expansion of cold storage and retail infrastructure, which improved the distribution of frozen products. Concurrently, revisions to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates and Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN) codes streamlined the classification and taxation of meat, facilitating smoother market operations.

Market volume dipped slightly in 2020 to 2 593 tons as COVID-19 pandemic disruptions affected meat supply chains and processing. However, the crisis also accelerated consumer demand for frozen and ready-to-eat meat products due to their longer shelf life. The subsequent recovery in 2021 was bolstered by the entry of new players into the frozen meat segment, which contributed to renewed production growth.

Production capacity investments in 2022, aimed at expanding processing and cold storage facilities, helped push the market volume to a period high of 2 622 tons. The following year, increased exports of ready-to-eat food products, supported by government export promotion policies, led to a higher share of production being shipped abroad. This shift slightly reduced the domestic market volume to 2 612 tons in 2023.
