Earlier Report Observations

The ginger market size in the Americas fluctuated significantly between 2018 and 2023, from 54.1 thousand tons to a peak of 86.6 thousand tons in 2022, then down to 48.4 thousand tons in 2023. Production rose steadily over the period, while exports grew sharply, often outpacing the increase in domestic output and imports.

Changing consumer preferences played a key role, with rising health awareness and the expansion of Asian cuisine in restaurants driving demand for value-added and organic ginger products by 2023. This shift was met with new production capacity, including the introduction of organic ginger powder lines by companies such as SA Rawther Spices, targeting export markets including North America.

Global supply factors also affected the region, as production swings in major Asian suppliers led to price volatility, prompting buyers in the Americas to diversify their sourcing. Meanwhile, initiatives like the Guam Department of Agriculture’s Master Plan aimed to boost local, climate-smart ginger cultivation, reflecting a broader trend toward import substitution.
