The garlic market in Pakistan expanded from 118.3 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 187.2 thousand tons in 2021, before contracting to 149.9 thousand tons in 2023. This represented a significant growth phase followed by a notable decline in the latter part of the period.

Market volume growth was primarily driven by a surge in imports, which more than doubled from 37.6 thousand tons in 2018 to 101.0 thousand tons in 2020. Domestic production also increased sharply in 2021, reaching 127.5 thousand tons, but fell back in subsequent years. The reduction in market size after 2021 coincided with a substantial decrease in import volumes.

By 2023, the market had settled at 149.9 thousand tons, with imports at 38.0 thousand tons and production at 115.4 thousand tons. The available data for 2024 shows import volumes recovering to 51.9 thousand tons, while exports also increased.
