Earlier Report Observations

The Spanish furniture market grew to $3.8 billion in 2018, supported by a significant increase in the average value of furniture exports, which stimulated international trade and market expansion. Growth continued in 2019, with the market reaching $3.9 billion. However, the market contracted to $3.6 billion in 2020.

From 2021 to 2023, furniture imports and exports showed notable shifts. Imports rose in 2021 and 2022 but fell in 2023, while exports grew steadily, reaching a record level in 2023. This reflected stronger competitiveness of Spanish furniture abroad, with exports to North America growing by 15.7%. The manufacturing sector demonstrated resilience despite broader economic fluctuations.

In 2024, retail sales of furniture increased by 1.5%, reaching €4.0 billion, driven by home, kitchen, and office furniture segments. Investment in automated assembly lines boosted production by 18%, although volatility in raw material prices, such as a 12% rise in zinc alloy costs, pressured margins. Consumer preferences shifted toward modular, compact, and sustainable furniture, while online channel penetration exceeded 15% of sales value.
