Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the market size for furniture and its parts in Poland contracted from 1 562 million $ to 1 317 million $, a decline of over 15%. This occurred as domestic production edged down slightly from 5 957 million $ to 5 852 million $, while exports grew steadily from 5 311 million $ to 5 644 million $. Imports increased during this period, rising from 917 million $ to 1 109 million $.

The market dynamics shifted from 2021 onward. Soaring prices for key inputs like wood, board materials, and metal components increased production costs and impacted industry competitiveness. The COVID-19 pandemic further forced operational optimizations across furniture firms. These pressures coincided with a sharp jump in imports to 1 653 million $ in 2021, while exports climbed to 6 818 million $. In 2022, continued raw material inflation and broader geopolitical uncertainty kept cost pressures high, with imports stabilizing near 1 650 million $ and exports rising to 6 868 million $.

By 2023, reduced household spending and persistently high costs for energy and materials led to an estimated decline in furniture production. This was reflected in a drop in imports to 1 473 million $. Exports, however, continued their upward trend to 6 997 million $. In 2024, falling inflation boosted consumer purchasing power, supporting demand in the renovation and construction segment. Nevertheless, rising electricity and raw material costs weakened producer competitiveness, and an economic slowdown in Germany—a key trade partner—contributed to challenges in export performance, with exports reaching 7 125 million $ and imports recovering to 1 618 million $.
