Earlier Report Observations

The Italian furniture market began the period supported by the furniture bonus confirmed in the 2018 Stability Law, which sustained domestic consumption. However, market size contracted in 2019 as slower growth in disposable income and employment restrained purchases, and fell further in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which weakened domestic demand and caused stagnation in global trade.

A strong rebound occurred in 2021, driven by the extension of the furniture bonus in the 2021 Budget Law and a surge in residential investment fueled by incentives like the Superbonus 110%. Growth continued through 2022 and 2023, supported by rising export turnover and a significant expansion of online sales, which exceeded 19% of the total market by 2024. Price increases for furniture, due to higher energy and raw material costs, also contributed to the nominal market value growth during these years.

In 2024, the market size declined as the furniture and appliance bonus expired at the year's end, reducing domestic demand. This was coupled with consumer caution and a normalization after the post-pandemic growth surge, although online sales remained a growing segment.
