Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for folding cartons, boxes and cases of non-corrugated paper or paperboard in Lithuania measured in physical terms showed significant volatility from 2018 to 2024. After steady growth from 33.6 thousand t in 2018 to a peak of 48.2 thousand t in 2020, the market contracted sharply in 2021 to 30.3 thousand t. In the following years, the market continued to decline, reaching 24.7 thousand t in 2024, which is well below the pre-pandemic level.

Domestic production broadly followed the market volume, also peaking at 42.7 thousand t in 2020 before a steep drop. Imports, which constituted a substantial share of supply, began to decline from 2021 onward, further reducing total availability. Exports of Lithuanian products experienced an even more pronounced contraction, particularly evident in 2023.

In value terms, the market presented a different picture: the market size in US dollars grew from 66.8 million $ in 2018 to a high of 89.3 million $ in 2022, despite falling physical volumes, suggesting an increase in average prices or a shift toward higher-value products. After the 2022 peak, the market value also began to decline.
