Between 2018 and 2019, Poland's exercise book production rose from 23 430 tons to 25 154 tons, while market volume reached 19 542 tons. This expansion was fueled by the introduction of new core curricula in September 2019, which compelled educational publishers to update and release revised editions of exercise books. Publishers such as Wydawnictwo Pedagogiczne Operon actively issued titles closely correlated with the curriculum, featuring diverse tasks and appealing graphics.

The market turned downward from 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic boosted demand for remote-learning materials, leading publishers to prioritize digital and interactive exercise books over physical copies, thereby reducing printed production. The digitization trend continued in 2021, and in 2022 the leading publisher Nowa Era reported a 9% revenue decline, reflecting the broader market contraction. Concurrently, growing environmental awareness influenced packaging changes toward less waste solutions, though this did not reverse the volume drop.

After bottoming out at 8 704 tons in 2023, market volume recovered partially to 9 636 tons in 2024. Production also increased from 12 640 tons to 14 363 tons over the same period, signaling a modest rebound in the physical exercise book segment.

After two years of growth, Poland's exercise book production declined in 2020. Output was valued at 47 584 thousand US dollars, down 10.5% from the previous year. The peak occurred in 2019 at 53 166 thousand US dollars, while the largest annual increase was recorded in 2018 at 8.9%.

In 2020, Poland produced 22 371 tonnes of exercise books, an 11.1% decrease compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 7.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of -2.6%. The highest output was in 2019 at 25 154 tonnes, and the largest annual increase occurred that same year at 7.4%.

Poland's exercise book exports grew for the third consecutive year in 2020, reaching 7 433 tonnes, a 7.3% year-over-year increase. From 2017 to 2020, exports surged by 84.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 22.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France were the main destinations for Poland's exercise book exports by volume. The UK accounted for 38.1% of exports, Germany for 22.1%, and France for 10.5%, together representing 70.6% of total export volume.

Poland's exercise book export value increased for the third straight year in 2020, reaching 15 249 thousand US dollars, a notable 16.6% rise from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, export value more than doubled, growing by 101.2% with an annualized rate of 26.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France were the primary markets for Poland's exercise book exports by value. The UK represented 31.3% of export value, Germany 28.2%, and France 7.9%, collectively accounting for 67.4% of total export value.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports fell by 41.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of -16.2%. The peak import volume was in 2018 at 1 723 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase at 30.3%.
