Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the Russian EVA copolymers market experienced significant shifts. Geopolitical sanctions and trade restrictions began to constrain import flows, contributing to a market contraction in 2019. The situation reversed sharply in 2020-2021, driven by the activation of import substitution policies and a substantial expansion in domestic production capacity for vinyl acetate polymers. This growth was further supported by the development of new application segments, such as biodegradable packaging, which bolstered domestic demand.

The market peaked in 2021 before entering a corrective phase from 2022 to 2024. Intensified international sanctions and geopolitical restrictions disrupted supply chains and access to key intermediates, leading to a contraction in domestic output and overall market volume. During this period, the industry focused on localizing EVA production—a process that faced initial challenges but laid the groundwork for future stability. Regulatory changes supporting the chemical industry and the emergence of new players in segments like EVA footwear provided secondary context, but the primary driver remained external trade constraints.
