Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the Italian EVA copolymer market experienced fluctuations influenced by global events and domestic regulations. Initially, demand was supported by the versatile applications of EVA in sectors such as footwear, packaging, and photovoltaics. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 shifted demand patterns, increasing consumption in medical and packaging segments, which raised the market volume to 103.5 thousand tons. The following year, the implementation of new occupational exposure limit values for chemical agents in Italy affected production operations, coinciding with a significant drop in market volume to 87.2 thousand tons.

From 2022 onward, the market recovered, driven by growing interest in sustainable materials. The shift toward bio-based EVA copolymers derived from sugar cane stimulated demand, contributing to a market volume increase to 112.6 thousand tons. After a temporary contraction in 2023, the market grew to 116.4 thousand tons in 2024, partly due to global capacity expansions such as the 70 000-ton-per-year increase by Celanese, which improved raw material availability, and the continued sustainability trend.
