The market volume for electricity meters in Poland stood at 4 614 thousand units in 2018 and remained near that level at 4 583 thousand units in 2019. However, it dropped sharply to 2 648 thousand units in 2020, before recovering to 3 203 thousand units in 2021.

In 2022, the market volume declined to 2 557 thousand units. This coincided with a government mandate for public sector entities to reduce electricity consumption by 10%, which likely dampened investment in new metering infrastructure. The following year, the market rebounded to 3 149 thousand units, driven by the rapid expansion of prosumer micro-installations, predominantly solar, and a push to roll out remote-reading electricity meters, with a target to reach 15% of individual consumers by end-2023. By 2024, the market eased slightly to 2 973 thousand units as the growth dynamic of new micro-installations slowed.

In Poland, the production value of electricity meters reached $323.7 million in 2019, marking the highest point during the period. However, it declined to $265.1 million in 2020, representing an 18.1% decrease compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader timeframe from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 11.5%, which translates to an average annual decline of 4.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at $263.3 million. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2019, with a growth of 22.9%.

Poland's production volume of electricity meters saw growth for two consecutive years before declining. In 2019, output peaked at 12 058 thousand units, but it dropped to 8 533 thousand units in 2020, a 29.2% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 17.9%, corresponding to an average annual decline of 6.4%. The largest year-on-year increase was recorded in 2019 at 10.7%.

Following two years of growth, Poland's export volume of electricity meters declined. In 2019, exports reached a high of 8 133 thousand units, but they fell to 7 288 thousand units in 2020, down 10.4% from the previous year. Despite this recent drop, exports increased by 23.9% overall between 2017 and 2020, averaging an annual growth rate of 7.4%. The most substantial year-on-year increase occurred in 2019, with a rise of 19.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom were the primary destinations for Poland's electricity meter exports in volume terms. Italy accounted for 40.7% of exports, France for 38.4%, and the United Kingdom for 9.9%. Together, these three countries represented 89.0% of total export flows during this period.

After two years of growth, Poland's export value of electricity meters declined. In 2019, exports peaked at $303.6 million, but they decreased to $248.0 million in 2020, an 18.3% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports still showed an overall increase of 20.7%, with an average annual growth rate of 6.5%. The largest year-on-year increase was recorded in 2018, with a rise of 27.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Italy and France dominated Poland's electricity meter exports in value terms, collectively accounting for 83.4% of total exports. The remaining share was distributed among other destinations, each with smaller individual contributions.

Poland's import volume of electricity meters increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, imports reached 1 403 thousand units, a sharp rise of 113.1% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports grew significantly by 285.4%, averaging an annual growth rate of 56.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Slovenia, and Tunisia were the key sources for Poland's electricity meter imports in volume terms. China accounted for 44.1% of imports, Slovenia for 11.4%, and Tunisia for 9.2%. Together, these three countries represented 64.8% of total import flows during this period.

The import value of electricity meters into Poland showed notable volatility from 2017 to 2020. Imports hit a low in 2017 and peaked in 2020, with a 4.5-fold difference between these years. In 2020, imports amounted to $41.8 million, a substantial increase of 114.6% from the previous year. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 10.8%, while the most significant increase was recorded in 2018, with a rise of 137.2%.
