The market for fresh or chilled edible brassicas in Belize experienced significant fluctuations in volume between 2018 and 2023. After starting at 1 471 t in 2018, consumption dropped to 1 216 t in 2019 and further to 1 115 t in 2020. A sharp rebound occurred in 2021, with the market expanding to 1 623 t, but it contracted again to 1 180 t in 2022 before reaching a new peak of 1 675 t in 2023.
Domestic production followed a similar volatile trajectory, falling from 1 213 t in 2018 to a low of 787 t in 2020, then recovering to 1 334 t in 2021. After a drop to 1 048 t in 2022, output rose again to 1 333 t in 2023. Imports varied considerably, supplementing local supply; they increased to 373 t in 2019, fell sharply to 132 t in 2022, and then jumped to 342 t in 2023. With no recorded exports, the total market size was determined solely by these two components.
