The market for dried shelled peas in Rwanda grew from 15 285 t in 2018 to 15 520 t in 2019. This increase aligned with the implementation of the national agricultural transformation strategy PSTA 4, designed to enhance productivity and market access, and the launch of the public-private Gabiro agribusiness hub, which expanded local production infrastructure. However, in 2020, the market volume fell to 13 974 t, corresponding to a reported decrease in fruit and vegetable output during Season A that reflected broader production difficulties.

After rebounding to 15 645 t in 2021, the market contracted to 14 086 t in 2022 and further to 12 119 t in 2023. Throughout this period, the sector remained under policies aimed at agricultural transformation and food security, though the overall trend showed a gradual decline in volume.

Rwanda's production of dried shelled peas saw a two-year increase before declining. In 2020, the country produced 13 953 tonnes, marking a moderate 9.4% decrease from the previous year. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 15 400 tonnes, while the largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018 at 19.4%.
