Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, Belarus's dried shelled pea production expanded steadily from 58 thousand tons to 86 thousand tons, driving market size growth from 64 thousand tons to 88 thousand tons.

Production reached a high of 92 thousand tons in 2021, though the domestic market size slightly contracted as exports surged to over 12 thousand tons. This export momentum was supported by growing international demand for peas as a source of plant-based protein, a trend highlighted at a Belarusian agricultural conference in 2022. Concurrently, Government Resolution No. 713, enacted in October 2022, introduced price controls on imported and domestic agricultural goods, affecting pea pricing and likely influencing import volumes.

After a significant production decline in 2022, the market began to recover in 2023. The temporary opening of the Indian market for pea exports until March 2024 provided a direct boost to overseas sales. In 2024, government measures such as credit subsidy programs for expanding pea cultivation areas, under Ministry of Agriculture Resolution No. 114, aimed to stimulate production growth. Increased exports to China and India further supported domestic output.
