Market volume collapsed to 79.4 тыс. т in 2022, more than halving, as the Russia-Ukraine war triggered fertilizer and energy price volatility, increasing production costs. The decline extended into 2023, reaching 75.5 тыс. т. During these years, health authorities actively promoted legume consumption for nutritional benefits, which may have cushioned the demand side despite supply constraints.

Paraguay's production of dried shelled legumes declined after two years of growth. In 2021, output reached 179 860 tonnes, remaining broadly stable compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, production increased by 8.9%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2020 at 180 782 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 5.2%.

In 2021, output was valued at 151.9 million US dollars, reflecting a sharp increase of 28.9% compared to 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, production value grew by 28.4%, equating to an annualized rate of 8.7%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 112.6 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 4.8%.
