From 2018 to 2021, the market volume for dried shelled cow peas in Myanmar showed relative stability, ranging between 105.8 and 108.4 thousand tons annually. Domestic production remained consistent at 106-109 thousand tons each year, while exports were negligible, keeping the vast majority of output available for the local market.

A decisive shift occurred from 2022 onward, driven by a dramatic expansion in exports. Overseas shipments jumped to 24.7 thousand tons in 2022 and then to 61.5 thousand tons in 2023. This redirection of supply caused the domestic market volume to contract sharply, falling to 83.3 thousand tons in 2022 and further to 52.3 thousand tons in 2023, even as production levels were maintained above 108 thousand tons.

After two years of decline, Myanmar's dried shelled cow peas production increased. In 2020, production reached 108.6 thousand tons, showing minimal year-over-year change. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 6.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.3%. The lowest production volume was recorded in 2019 at 108.0 thousand tons, while the largest decline occurred in 2018 at 5.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia were the largest contributors to Myanmar's dried shelled cow peas exports by volume. India accounted for 24.1% of exports, the United Arab Emirates for 20.4%, and Indonesia for 18.9%. Together, these three countries represented 63.3% of total export flows.
