The market volume for dried shelled beans in Eswatini fluctuated between 2018 and 2023, starting at 8 635 t and reaching a peak of 8 962 t in 2020 before declining to 7 650 t by 2023. Domestic production remained relatively stable at around 1 400 t per year, while imports, which constitute the bulk of supply, fell from 7 214 t to 6 273 t over the same period.

In 2024, bean imports dropped further to 4 673 t. During this year, the state-owned Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE) actively promoted bean cultivation as part of the government's agricultural strategy, supporting hundreds of farmers and expanding irrigated areas to increase domestic output for food security and commercial sales.
