Oceania's production of desiccated coconuts declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 30 918 tonnes, which represents a significant drop of 33.5% compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 49.5%, averaging an annual decrease of 20.4%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 62 891 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 2.7%.

Exports desiccated coconuts from Oceania

The export market for desiccated coconuts from Oceania showed considerable volatility during this period. From 2017 to 2019, exports fluctuated dramatically, with a peak-to-trough difference of 24 times. In 2020, exports plummeted to just 139 tonnes, a sharp decline of 90.9% from 2019. The peak export volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 531 tonnes, which also experienced the largest annual increase of 1,563.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the Philippines remained the primary destination for Oceania's desiccated coconut exports, accounting for 70.9% of total shipments. The remaining exports were distributed among various other markets.

Export values exhibited an unstable pattern throughout the observed timeframe. The highest value was recorded in 2019, while 2020 saw the lowest, with a four-fold difference between these years. In 2020, export revenues fell to 357 thousand US dollars, marking a substantial decrease of 74.7% from the previous year. The peak export value occurred in 2019 at 1 411 thousand US dollars, which also registered the largest annual increase of 267.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Oceania's desiccated coconut exports in value terms were spread across numerous markets. The Philippines accounted for 41.1% of total export value, followed by Indonesia at 3.9% and France at 2.4%. Together, these three markets represented 47.4% of total export flows.
