From 2018 to 2020, Mauritania's date market benefited from significant state investments in agricultural infrastructure. The government funded a laboratory in Atar for seed selection, in vitro cultivation, and pest control to improve date palm yields, while the inauguration of the Seguelil dam in 2019 provided permanent irrigation to oases in the Adrar region. These measures, along with the distribution of solar panels and new palm trees to poor farmers, supported a gradual rise in domestic date production from 22 004 tonnes in 2018 to 22 395 tonnes in 2020.

Starting in 2021, the sector encountered the advancing desert and climate change, which threatened date palms through the gradual sanding of oases. In response, the state maintained its support by improving irrigation systems and supplying solar equipment, helping to stabilize production around 22 000 tonnes. Despite these environmental pressures, the total date market volume grew from 26 478 tonnes in 2019 to 27 941 tonnes in 2023, reflecting ongoing adaptation efforts.
