Between 2018 and 2019, cucumber and gherkin production in Tajikistan rose from 211.6 thousand tonnes to 235.7 thousand tonnes, driven by the ongoing agrarianization of the economy which expanded agricultural output.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and dampened demand, causing production to fall to 208.5 thousand tonnes in 2020. A recovery followed, with output reaching 218.6 thousand tonnes in 2021 as consumer preferences shifted toward fresh vegetables, and 220.9 thousand tonnes in 2022 amid post-pandemic market stabilization.

Output saw a slight decline to 216.0 thousand tonnes in 2023, the same year the government approved a national irrigation and melioration development program for 2024-2028 aimed at improving agricultural water supply.

After two years of growth, cucumber and gherkin production in Tajikistan declined. In 2020, the country produced 208.5 thousand tons, which was an 11.6% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the entire period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 17.1%, averaging a 5.4% annual growth rate. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 235.7 thousand tons, while the largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018 at 18.9%.
