Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, production of crude and rifted sheets or splittings mica in Morocco reached 49 751 tons. However, in the second half of the year, falling prices for key commodities including silver and copper reduced revenues for Moroccan mining companies, putting pressure on the profitability of mineral extraction. This led to the beginning of a production decline, which in 2019 decreased by 1.7% to 48 892 tons.

The downward trend accelerated in 2020 when production fell by 19% to 39 600 tons, then dropped by 35% in 2021 to 25 685 tons. By 2022, output stood at just 20 330 tons, 20% lower than the previous year and 59% below the 2018 level. By 2024, Morocco's economy saw changes such as an increase in the minimum wage to 3 120 dirhams and a revival in the construction sector, which could influence demand for industrial minerals including mica.
